Curiosity is a gift… and a curse. #

Born in 1974, I belong to a generation that grew up without the internet and watched it gradually weave itself into daily life. I started disassembling objects at age six — not to break them, but to understand how they worked. That habit never left.

I relocated to Amsterdam in 2002 and spent three years at Wieden+Kennedy as a Creative Technologist, supervising and developing projects for Nike, Nokia, Heineken, and others. I began experimenting with mobile devices in 2001 and internet-connected objects in 2007, long before either was considered practical.

Today I teach programming and electronics, with a focus on making complex concepts genuinely accessible to people who don’t yet think of themselves as technical.

Know-How #

Creative Technology Direction — Over the past two decades I acquired extended knowledge of coding languages and paradigms, become proficient at diverse engineering practices and kept up-to-date with new and upcoming technologies. I can supervise teams with diverse skills and am able to coordinate projects as well as getting my hands dirty when necessary.

Design / Technology Bridge — Thanks to the projects I’ve been involved with I’ve learned to speak both technology and design, which makes me a good diplomatic bridge between these two worlds who still seem to speak very different idioms and comply to different protocols. I have often worked as my clients’ delegate inside production houses.

Interaction Design — I cherish how we, as humans, interact with things, be them interfaces on screen, objects or physical spaces. I believe there’s always room for improvement in interaction patterns.

Electronics — Getting electrocuted has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was a child. I love working with electronics to create product prototypes, proof of concept devices and installations.

CAD — As I began using a 3d printer I found myself using CAD on an almost daily basis in order to create parts for prototypes. When working with product designers I really enjoy making their lives easier by preparing models starting from ECAD projects in order to design perfect enclosures.

Teaching #

For many years I have been interested in sharing my know-how with everyone who was interested in learning programming, electronics, coding, digital fabrication or even baking crostata. I have hosted small workshops as well as held my own modules in Interaction Design masters, such as CIID, MaInD at SUPSI and IED. My Tangible Interfaces module has introduced many designers to creating interactive physical objects using Arduino, MicroPython and electronics.

Talks #

every now and then some nice people invite me to speak at conferences or events, and I enjoy doing this a lot. the latest I attended as a speaker are:

  • Programmed Obsolescence [FITC Amsterdam 2017
  • Unfinished Business [FITC Amsterdam 2015
  • Closing the Circle: 8 Bit to 64 and Back [FITC 2014]
  • KIKK Festival 2013 (Namur)
  • Ignite Amsterdam 21
  • This Happened NL Amsterdam
